Sharity Ministries Expands its Leadership

(ATLANTA) – Sharity Ministries, a Sandy Springs-based non-profit health care sharing ministry, has hired a new president and welcomed a new board member. Joe Guarino, former director of government relations for the Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries (AHCSM), was tapped to lead the ministry last summer. Chris Sizemore, co-founder and CEO of Creative Mischief, joined the board last fall.

“Joe brings just a wealth of knowledge and experience in the health care sharing world to Sharity,” said William “Rip” Thead, CEO of Sharity Ministries. “Knowing how he has worked with legislators, regulators, and Congress, we feel blessed to have him on board, both figuratively and literally.” Guarino has also joined Sharity’s board.

While with the AHCSM, Guarino led the negotiations with Congress which landed an exemption from the individual mandate to purchase health insurance in the Affordable Care Act for members of HCSMs. He also lobbied for or oversaw the lobbying of the passage of safe-harbor laws for the HCSMs in more than a dozen states. Over the past quarter century, Guarino has also advocated successfully for home educators and natural health practitioners.

“If you want to feel connected in Atlanta, call Chris Sizemore,” Thead shared. “Chris’ connections will add invaluably to the possibilities Sharity envisions for the future.”

Sizemore is the CEO of an award-winning, Atlanta-based branding & marketing agency. He sits on the advisory board of Citizens Trust Bank, the board of governors of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and the board of directors and the executive committee of United Way of Greater Atlanta. Past leadership roles include board positions with the Legal Marketing Association and the American Marketing Association. He has been awarded as one of Atlanta Business Chronical’s and Georgia Trend’s 40 under 40 honorees, and played a key role in the passage of the Safe Harbor Yes Amendment for Sexually Exploited Children.

About Sharity Ministries

Sharity Ministries is a 501(c)(3) non-profit health care sharing ministry built on the centuries- old Christian tradition of sharing and bearing one another’s health care needs. Our members hold a common set of religious beliefs, and voluntarily agree to share their medical expenses in accordance with those beliefs. Our sharing programs are designed to simplify the complexities of health care, while putting the power of choice back in the hands of our members. In 2019, Sharity members shared almost $58 million in medical expenses. For more information, visit
