Practicing Mindfulness

With everything going on in the world right now, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, so we must not forget the hope we have in Christ. By taking the time to practice mindfulness throughout our day, we can feel connected to God, ourselves, and our surroundings.


What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is taking time every day to bring our thoughts into the present moment, and to objectively observe ourselves and the world around us. By slowing down and being aware of our thoughts and our surroundings, we can focus our attention on God’s beautiful creation and His presence in our lives.


How Can You Practice Mindfulness?

There are many ways to practice mindfulness. Here are some suggestions to get you started.


  • Pay attention and recognize the beauty in God’s creation. Whether it’s a sunny day, a lovely painting, or a smile on a stranger’s face, God’s handiwork can be found everywhere. Take a moment to search for and reflect on it.
  • Meditate on Scripture throughout your day. Should you feel anxious, angry, or overwhelmed, refocus your mind on the Lord’s teachings and how you are feeling. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.” Matt. 6:34
  • Schedule mindfulness and prayer into your day. When you enjoy that first sip of coffee in the morning, take the time to acknowledge God’s presence in your life, and thank Him for it.


Incorporating mindfulness into your daily life can help you recognize and address your emotions while also developing a deeper relationship with God.
